Galveston Travel Guide

Over Presidents day weekend, Ryan and I packed up our stuff and headed to Galveston for a little weekend getaway. Being from Houston, I always enjoy visiting the island for the weekend and it is the perfect weekend trip. We did a lot of non-beach stuff perfect for cooler temperatures. Get the inside scoop to our trip below!

Where We Stayed

We stayed at the Tremont House located a street over from The Strand. Our entire stay, Ryan and I kept saying "we have to come back here!" From the aesthetic, to the staff, and amenities, we absolutely loved everything about Tremont House. The best part was, the hotel had an amazing bar and restaurant so we spent our evenings at the bar and ordered room service breakfast one morning too and it was just the best! I typically stay in beach houses when staying in Galveston, but now I am sold on Tremont House.

Where We Ate

We did a lot of good eating while in Galveston. I love seafood and since the gulf is right there, the seafood is always good! My favorite place we went to was Sugar & Rye. It is brand new and it has the cutest Beverly Hills hotel aesthetic. Our hotel was my favorite place to grab a cocktail. If you enjoy espresso martinis, theirs was the best I have ever had!

A few of our other favorites from the weekend:

What We Did

We did a lot of walking around The Strand. If you are not familiar with Galveston or The Strand, it's Galveston's downtown district. It is where all the shops, bars, and a lot of restaurants are located. We were there during Mardi Gras weekend which is where all the events were happening. We went into a lot of stores, but our favorite place we stumbled upon was Axecade. Axecade is a axe throwing/ arcade place and we spent a good chunk of time here! It is perfect for cold weather and great for groups! The best part is, it's $15 a person for an hour of axe throwing and unlimited games. The bar also had great drinks which was a bonus

Overall Experience

Like I said in the beginning, we had the best time on our weekend getaway, and we are already planning our next trip back! I used to think of going to Galveston only when the weather is warm to enjoy the beach, but there is so much to do besides sitting on the beach and I can't wait to go back!
